The ABEM Terrameter VES MAX is a ‘bridging’ instrument for resistivity and IP, aimed at those with serious aspirations to start doing ERT in the future, and those with the budget for a fully-specified VES instrument, capable of advanced functionality. It should be of particular interest to those with requirements for IP or deeper resistivity surveys.
What is VES?
VES (vertical electrical sounding) is a long established, straightforward method for determining the change in electrical resistivity beneath a single point. It is a basic and cost-effective method with measurements using just four electrodes attached to a resistivity meter, varying the electrode spacing to sample different depths.
Typical application areas
- Groundwater
- Geological exploration
- Electrical grounding
Performance through scaleability
The ABEM Terrameter is available in many different configurations (VES, VES MAX and LS2) to perfectly match your requirements. The instrument benefits from an innovative hardware licensing system, making it scalable and easy to upgrade. Every instrument comes preinstalled with all hardware modules and software features, but depending on product package not all need be activated. Product packages range from basic to advanced. Upgrades are made by downloading a license code from the internet or via USB.
Remote connectivity
Operate, upgrade, download or test anywhere, at any time
Remote connectivity can allow the ABEM support team to assist with software upgrades, give support or troubleshoot if necessary. This unique feature ensures that the system is always up to date, operating correctly, with the risk of downtime kept to an absolute minimum.
The built-in field computer in the ABEM Terrameter VES (VES MAX) offers robust computing power, an easy to use graphical user interface and connectivity such as USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. The internal GPS supports GLONASS, which improves positioning accuracy. Data is stored on a removable 16 GB microSD memory card, with a capacity of millions of data readings.
The Terrameter VES can be upgraded to the VES MAX specification and both instruments can be upgraded to full imaging systems - simply choose the Terrameter LS 2 model that suits your needs.
Advantages:
- Measure IP faster and with better quality
- Rugged and robust – measure anywhere at any time
- Remote connectivity allows assistance onsite
- Scaleable and easy to upgrade
- Optimized for productivity, minimizing field time
- Outstanding quality of data even in the harshest conditions
- GPS with GLONASS for improved accuracy
A rugged system made for the field
Designed and optimized for even the harshest of conditions
The robust and durable aluminum casing meets IEC IP66 classification and allows for use in anywhere from -20°C to +70°C. Durable high specification connectors, a 6mm shatterproof glass screen and protective rubber bump strips ensure a reliable and tough system.
If the environment is unwelcoming, the 100% duty cycle IP mode (VES MAX) means you’ll never be in the field longer than necessary – ensuring fast and precise resistivity and IP surveying.
- IEC IP66 standard
- Rugged instrument casing
- A variety of accessories for multiple applications
- Upgradeable design
ABEM Power Adapter
Robust and stable power in the field
This powerful AC-DC adapter allows operators to run their ABEM instruments from an existing power network or a small ‘suitcase’-style generator. These generators weigh less than a typical high-capacity lead-acid battery, providing an option for prolonged power even in locations where recharging of batteries may be problematic. The ABEM Power Adapter is perfect for demanding field campaigns; it is fully waterproof and capable of providing a clean and stable 12V DC supply in excess of 30A from a 110V/230V AC (50 or 60 Hz) source. It would also suit monitoring and other unattended applications where there would be limited opportunities for changing over batteries.
In addition to the main power output, a waterproof auxiliary connector offers both 5V 2A and 12V 1A outputs, for custom accessories, plus an “operation OK” signal, useful for remote applications.
ABEM ES10-64C
Electrode switching for your VES instrument
Both VES instruments (VES and VES MAX) can use an external electrode selector to allow 2D or even 3D surveys to be undertaken. This is to ensure backward compatibility with existing SAS 1000 / 4000 users who may wish to upgrade their instrument but want to retain their existing accessories.
External electrode selectors allow for the creation of longer and (or) denser spreads of electrodes, useful for better resolution, deeper surveys or larger 3D layouts.
Each ES10-64C has the capacity to address 64 electrodes and the units can be connected in series to further expand the electrode capacity.
ABEM Terrameter Log 300
Integrated resistivity & IP logging
The ABEM Terrameter Log 300 is a plug-and-play borehole logging tool compatible with both the SAS and LS product ranges. It seamlessly adds borehole capability to existing resistivity systems in a robust, durable design for demanding fieldwork. Deployment is made easier with a backpack frame and an optional tripod.
- Seamlessly adds borehole capability to existing resistivity systems
- Provides detail at depth unachievable from surface measurements alone
- Can help establish water quality in boreholes
- Robust, durable design for demanding fieldwork
- Backpack frame for easier deployment.
