Armand Tartak Metal Detector
The Armand Tartak is a specialized metal detector designed for inspecting timber and wood products for hidden metal contamination before cutting, processing, or further manufacturing. Developed and manufactured in Poland by Armand, the detector is particularly suitable for sawmills, woodworking facilities, forestry operations, and furniture manufacturers where hidden metal objects can pose a risk to machinery, workers, and finished materials.
The Armand Tartak is designed with increased sensitivity to small ferrous objects such as steel nails, metal fragments, and other iron-containing contaminants that may be embedded inside logs and wooden materials. It can also be used to locate potentially dangerous metal fragments originating from wartime debris that may remain inside timber.
With its lightweight construction, simple controls, automatic ground adjustment, and waterproof search coil, the Armand Tartak provides a practical solution for routine inspection of timber before mechanical processing.

How to Inspect Timber with the Armand Tartak
For more thorough inspection, the manufacturer recommends checking the timber from both sides.
Place the search coil against one side of the log or wooden component and scan the entire surface. Then rotate the material by approximately 180 degrees and repeat the inspection from the opposite side.
Scanning both sides can improve the chance of detecting metal objects located inside the wood, particularly when their position or depth may affect the strength of the detected signal.
For automated production environments, Armand also offers a dedicated sawmill conveyor controller that can be used to automatically stop the production line when metal is detected.
Detection Modes
The Armand Tartak provides two operating modes:
Static Mode:
Designed for stationary or slow inspection where the detector can be used to locate a metal object more precisely.
Dynamic Mode:
Designed for continuous scanning while moving the search coil across the surface of the timber.
The detector also provides automatic ground adjustment, helping maintain stable operation under changing ground conditions.
Design and Construction
The Armand Tartak has been designed for regular use in demanding working environments. Its lightweight construction weighs approximately 1.2 kg, allowing the operator to inspect timber for extended periods without excessive fatigue.
The detector features an ergonomic housing, adjustable armrest, comfortable handle, and a folding design for easier transportation and storage. The support shaft is made from aluminum and finished with a durable baked coating.
The 28.5 cm search coil is fully waterproof, making it suitable for use in demanding field and industrial conditions.
Audio and Headphone Operation
When metal is detected, the Armand Tartak generates a clear audible signal. The detector includes a stereo mini-jack headphone connection.
When headphones are connected, the built-in speaker is automatically muted, allowing the operator to concentrate on the detection signal and work more effectively in noisy environments.
Power Supply
The Armand Tartak is powered by two 9V 6F22 batteries or compatible rechargeable batteries.
Its low power consumption provides several hours of operating time, depending on factors such as detection activity, volume level, and headphone usage.
